The Curious Reader

The Curious Reader is an online literary magazine with a focus on Indian literature. Co-founded by Devanshi Jain and Nirbhay Kanoria, it received over 40,000 visitors per month.

At The Curious Reader, I managed a team of 5 cross-functional employees, edited, wrote, pitched in on graphic design and designed and developed the website.

Content Management and Editing

As the editor, and later, the managing editor of The Curious Reader, I managed the editorial calendar, commissioned pitches, worked with a pool of over 100 freelance writers and edited the articles and listicles featured on the website

My editorial approach goes beyond line editing and includes developmental editing. The focus is to help the writer publish the best possible version of the article.

Operations

I was responsible for managing a team consisting of an editor, a writer, a graphic designer and a social media manager. I hired the team, onboarded and mentored them and ensured that our company culture enabled and empowered each of them.

Writing

I frequently wrote for The Curious Reader- both long-form articles and listicles. I also wrote a majority of the website copy.

The articles largely involved a lot of reading, research and analysis, which would showcase

Website Design and Development

Using Extra, a WordPress theme that uses the Divi Builder, I designed and developed the website. Over the course of 3 years, the website went through 2 re-designs and one re-branding. In addition, I designed and developed WordPress websites for two authors.

My design philosophy involves focussing on the goal of the website and ensuring a clean and user-friendly experience which is as functional as it is beautiful.
